Turkeys disappear???
Last spring we had a flock of 12 turkeys around 80 acres I hunt in central Minnesota. I have not seen them since then. They were around for at least 1.5years before then, introduced/released by a neighbor. I spent alot of time in the woods hunting last fall and this spring shed hunting, and no sign of them anywhere. I checked near some trees they were roosting in on our land, nothing.
Would they have moved to a different area?? Or did the coyote and wolves have there way with them? Any ideas? |
RE: Turkeys disappear???
Depending on how many predators you have, I would say they left. I doubt a coyote got all 12 of those birds but it is possible. They may have went somewhere for more food or water or even for more cover. There is no way to know for sure i guess.

RE: Turkeys disappear???
I'd say they moved out, in our woods we got about 3 flocks of 15 birds around 80 acres that we can hunt, We have a huge coyote problem, but they don't tend to take turkeys very often. I've seen a coyote run after some turkeys, usually the turkey's get away, never seen one take one, but it is possible

RE: Turkeys disappear???
i would have to say that they probably moved on. they may not have been getting everything they needed food and nutrition wise. i thought this was the case on the land i'm hunting but i finally found the birds, but so far not a definate gobler.

RE: Turkeys disappear???
One thing I hope did not happen to that flock is POACHING.
At my place we lost 9 birds one night several years ago to 2 guys with a 22's and lights (coon hunters) . They braged about it but the wardens said no proof . Johnch |
RE: Turkeys disappear???
jeese that really stinks that they couldn't get them on it. i know for a fact that people trespass on the land that i hunt on so hopefully that isn't the case for me. we allow a game warden and a deputy sherrif to hunt and fish there and they have caught a few people.
