Does an evening of high winds (20+ mph) while the birds are on the roost affect the time they will come off the roost the following morning?

from what i have heard they will come down out of the tree in bad storm's or high wind's when it is going on and be scaterd around the next morning . but that may not be right . but they seem to end up in open spots on windy day's

I roosted 13 birds (4 toms) last Tuesday which was the evening before opening day here in Oklahoma. The wind was blowing about 30 mph that evening and the birds didn't fly up until the last minute before dark. The wind continued to blow all night and on opening morning the wind was still blowing 30-35 mph. The birds flew down from the roost at 6:20am which is what they had been doing for the last few weeks give or take 3-5 minutes. I hope that this helps.

PS: The largest tom in the group hit the ground for a second time at 6:24am

This happened to me last weekend. Watched a Tom and a Jake roost in a mad wind (20+). The next morning (20+winds) set up 75 yards away and they flew out a little later then I expected but none the less worked us almost perfectly....almost.

Thanks, fellas. Lung Blood, congrats on the Tom. Hope the rest of you guys get yours this spring. Anyone ever had a full fan bird who seemed afraid of a "PJ" decoy?

I have always wondered that when the wind gets really strong at night if the turkeys will have to fly down in the middle of the night. I hunted one morning that was windy as heck and I never heard them on the roost or never saw any fly down.
