GOT MY FIRST GOBLER!!!!!!
 

THIS MORNING I GOT MY FIRST GOBLER IN FINNEY VIRGINIA. IT WEIGHED IN AT 22POUNDS AND HAD A 9 1/2 INCH BEARD. I CALLED IT IN FROM ABOUT 100 YARDS AWAY AND ITS MY FIRST TIME EVER USING A CALL, AND IM ONLY 14. I SHOT IT AT ABOUT 15 YARDS AWAY...YEA THATS HOW CLOSE I GOT HIM IN. I SHOT HIM WITH MY REMINGTON 870 SUPER MAGNUM WITH A TRU-GLO SUPER FULL TURKEY CHOKE, AND A 3 1/2 INCH WINCHESTER NO 4 SHOT MAGNUM SHELL.

WELL, WHERE WE WENT(ME AND MY DAD) HUNTING WAS ON A RIDGE AND WE HAD TO RIDE THE ATV TO THE TOP. WE GOT TO OUR SPOT BEFORE DAYLIGHT AND STARTED TO WAIT. I HAD GONE ON YOUTH DAY AND SEEN A MASSIVE GOBLER STILL ON ROOST BUT I DIDNT HAVE A CALL, HE WAS IN THE SAME PLACE WE WERE WAITING. SO, IT GOT DAYLIGHT AND WE COULD HERE A FEW GOBLERS IN THE DISTANCE BUT NONE CLOSE. WE STARTED DOWN THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HILL WE HAD RODE UP AND WE FOUND A GOOD SPOT AND WAITED. I FOUND A COZY SPOT BESIDE A TREE AND DOZED OFF(OPPS), BUT MY DAD LATER WOKE ME UP AND SAID HE HAD HEARD NOTHING AND WE WERE GOING TO GO BACK TO THE TOP OF THE HILL. AS WE WERE GOING TO THE TOP OF THE HILL, WE HEARD A GOBLER, BUT HE WAS WAY DOWN ON ANOTHER RIDGE. SO WE DECIDE WHAT THE HECK WE WOULD TRY CALLING HIM IN, IT WAS ABOUT 10:30 AND WE HAD BORROWED A BOX CALL FROM MY BROTHER. I HAD NEVER USED A TURKEY CALL EVER BUT THIS WAS PRETTY EASY TO USE. WE CALLED A LITTLE BIT AND HE WOULD GOBBLE LIKE CRAZY. BUT HE STAYED IN THE SAME SPOT FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES.WELL I CONTINUED TO CALL AND WE HEARD NOTHING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. DAD SAID GIVE IT ANOTHER GO AND WELL HEAD OUT. I CALLED AND NOW THE GOBLER GOBLED BUT HE WAS RIGHT AT THE TOP OF OUR RIDGE WHERE WE WERE, AND WAS ABOUT TO COME OVER THE TOP. I GRABBED MY SHOTGUN AND GAVE THE CALL TO DAD AND HE CALLED JUST A LITTLE BIT AND THE GOBLER GOBLED AND STRETCHED HIS HEAD OUT AND THEN THATS WHEN I UNLEASHED MY LOAD OF NO 4S ON HIM. HE WAS ONLY 15 YARDS AWAY AND HE QUICKLY WENT TO FLOPPING DOWN THE HILL. I WENT AND GOT HIM AND WE PACKED HIM OUT OF THEIR AND WE WENT TO CHECK HIM IN. HE WEIGHED 22 POUNDS, HAD 1 IN SPURS AND A 9 1/2 INCH BEARD.

Congrats, 30-06lover !!!! Very nice bird for your first. My daugthers first was very similar. Our last name is "Finney", and since you got him in "Finney", Va., I know it's a GRAND bird.
