how far do you shoot????
 

Just wondering what the max distance is you will take a shot at a turkey with... And what ammo you are using... What is a good combo of choke tube and ammo that keeps a good group at the longer ranges???

Im brand new to turkey hunting but if your useing a 12 gauge i would say no more then 40 yards away..

I would like them to be closer in range maybe 30 or 25 yards would be ideal..

Im sure their are more experianced turkey hunters here that might have a better answer for you but if it helps you get an idea then i did my job :)

also what are you useing for a shotgun??

I have a Mossberg turkey 12 gauge and im useing Federal FliteControl Wad 3 1/2 inch shot #4

Well I am not new to it at all, just curious what others do... I use a Remington 870 Express Mag SPS 12 ga... I just patterned some new Federal Premium Mag Shok heavyweight and man that was a tight group at 20 yrds (and they kick like no other shell I've tried, ouchy)... Almost every pellet was within a 7" radius... That was with an undertaker choke tube... The pattern seemed to get quite open out to 40 yrds... Maybe a better choke tube would help or maybe that's normal... I've always stuck to under 30 yrds, but i see where people have shot farther and due to a no kill last year cause i couldn't get one closer than 40 yrds, I thought I would see how it shot.... So I guess what I want to know is how tight is your patern out to 40 yrds???

i shoot a doctored up 870 wingmaster with extra full custom choke. i put @ 80% of shot in a 30 inch circle at 30 yds, and have a solid, tight pattern at 40 yds.( 192 shot in 8x11 taarget) i have patterned my gun at 50yds., but choose not to shoot at over 40 yds., because i try to call them in closer than that! i too use federal shells- shot best pattern among all i tried. different guns shoot different patterns with same load. have a doctored up mossburg that hates federal 4 and 6 shot, but shoots 5s like a dream! just take the time to find a good combination and stick with it. good luck and BE SAFE!!:D

the idea is to get em in close but some times it dont happen you just need to know what your gun will do i know that 45yards is the max for my set up

I would have to say 40 yards:) Although I have killed 1 gobbler at 45 paces

They say rednecks have a hard time judging distance looking up into a tree! So they judge the distance by how long it takes the turkey turd to hit the ground from up on the roost


I like to "ROLL'EM on the GROUND with a HEAD SHOT!" at about 25 to 30yds. I've taken gobblers from yards out to 71yds bird (I paced off 70 and my brother came up with 72) but I'd have to say that my average shot is around 30yds. With the pattern I'm throwing now I'm going to have start to take them around 30 to 40yds.

I use Rem. 3" Duplex 4x6 backed up with Rem 3.5" #6 and Rem 3.5" #4 out of an 870 Supermag with a M.A.D. Max .665 (i think) choke.

I've killed them at out to 55-60 yds. Average shot is 20-30. I probably wouldn't try to shoot them so far away if they weren't so darn tasty ; )

I like to get them close, and if they don't cooperate, that is why I use a bow. :D

I can kill a turkey farther with my bow than I can with a shotgun[8D];):)
