RE: I'm thinking rain
I kinda like hunting turkeys in the rain. They always head for the fields, easy to find.

RE: I'm thinking rain
One bright side to it raining on the opener Longbeard....I won't have to feel so bad about being at work. Although, I think I'm beginning to feel a little under the weather already just thinking about it....cough...cough. ;)
On the bright side, I'll be hunting in VA on the 15th and 16th. Maybe I'll get some practice in early. |
RE: I'm thinking rain
maybe the weather will be better up north for you, sure hasn't been to good down south.since opening day on the 15th of march, we've had only a few nice sunny morning, alot of several thunder storms, good luck and enjoy being in the woods.

RE: I'm thinking rain
Just bought some new raingear from Cabelas so I am ready. Also have the first 2
weeks off from work. Yep, I am ready to go!:D |
RE: I'm thinking rain
My dad and I have doubled on turkeys in the rain two yers in a row now.
Rain doesn't always spell trouble. Good luck. |
RE: I'm thinking rain
I hear ya. Since I head west to Garrett county each spring to hunt gobblers, I have come to expect rain on at least part of most days. Listening to the weather forecast there is useless for predicting anything--it changes 180 degrees by the hour! I has ranged from low 20's with high winds and snow to 50's with sun. It's usually a bit cool on the opener with threatening skies.

RE: I'm thinking rain
I don't mind hunting in a light to steady rain either (God bless Gore-tex). Especially if it starts after I'm already out and about. There's just something about getting out of the truck when it's already raining, especially if it's cold.
I know a lot of people that won't go out if it's really windy either, but about 10 years ago, I called a big gobbler in off the roost while the wind sounded like a freight train coming down the side of the mountain. I have no idea how he was even able to stay in the tree! All that just to say, if you catch the birds fired up, it doesn't always seem to matter what going on weather-wise. |
