Would you shoot a bearded hen?
I was curious, How many of you would shoot a bearded hen? I have one with about a 6" beard or so running around by me.

RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
I don't have anything against it but, I would'nt.
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
I would in the fall. I've never got one, but they look delicious.
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
I wouldn't in the spring season even though they're legal. The hens need a chance to hatch their clutch.
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
she'd be dead and on the wall no matter what time of year.
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
Taking a bearded hen is not going to hurt the turkey population. So yes I would take one if givin the chance:)
A bearded hen would make a awsome trophy:) |
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
No I wouldn't. Like others have said, I don't have anything against it I just don't think I would do it.
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
I would....I've taken hens in the fall before, so I wouldn't think twice about shooting a bearded hen in the spring.
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
I quess I should clarify. I wouldn't shoot one in the spring because it would mean I couldn't take but one Tom. I would shoot one in the fall as well as any other hen I get a shot at.
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
It is illegal to take a hen in Alabama---beard or no beard
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
i would, since our state doesnt have anything against it.
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
:D
Well, I would with this in mind: I've always been told and read that the best wingbone yelpers are from the wingbones from a hen. For me at this point in my turkey hunting career would be the only reason. Well, I'd eat it too.;);) |
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
I would!

RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
ORIGINAL: RayC Not in the spring, fall would be fair game for me though We can't even take a hen here until this year when we get our very first Fall turkey season which will be either sex . I haven't seen any bearded hens , but there's a piebald(grey phase) hen that's been coming around lately . My wife doesn't want me to shoot here , but I've explained that if she leaves our property or the one next door then she's fair game for all and won't make it past the season since she can't hide . The fact that her wing feathers would look very sweet at the end of my arrows had also occured to me too though ... ;) |
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
I have thousands of turkey pictures. I could'nt resist posting this one.

RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
i'd have to say that i'd try to take one but i probably wouldn't take more than that...unless i was bowhuntin' and then they'd all be fair game.
|
RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
If I'd been skunked on a Tom and it was the last day of the spring season, sure thing! We only get one turkey tag per season here in PA, so I'd hold off if it was prior to the closer. Now in the fall, she'd be in real trouble from the go.

RE: Would you shoot a bearded hen?
