How long before you move to another area
I.m new at Turkey hunting. I went to where I heard turkeys every time I hunted deer. I got there before sunrise and let off about 4 or 5 yelps. I had no turkey answer. How long do you folks normally stay untill you try another spot?
Thanks for the help.

RE: How long before you move to another area
Well first off you should scout around the area during the spring to see if the turkeys are still using it. They could be long gone from when you heard them in deer season.
BUT if you know they are in the area I like to at least wait 30 minutes after my last calls before I move. A lot depends on your area. If you know the turkey could be moving thru on thier own then it may pay to sit a little longer. If you are in an area where they could be anywhere some people like to keep moving until they get a response. A lot of times a bird may hear you off the roost but be henned up. Later in the morning the hens will go to nest and he'll start looking again.

I assume you are hunting Green Swamp. That's why I told you I quit hunting there.
You run into hunter's while trying to scout, it's to crouded.
You always scout the logging roads for feathers or when the ground is damp for
tracks for the direction they were going .Get down from the vehicle and using
orange surveyors tape, mark that area. At dusk go back to the area and head
in that direction for a short distance, stop and using an Owl call do some calling
and see is they will answer the call, if not, walk in a little further and call again. If
they answer, you have located thier roost. Look and see where a good spot is
to position yourself. You don't want to spook them off the roost, move very quite.
The Owl Call should sound like....Who Cooks For You-Who Cooks For You-ALLLLLLL.
If there's no answer, start again from another location.Repeat the above. If you
don't you will sit there all day waiting for the other hunters to spook one your way.
That's not turkey hunting, that's like useing turkey Dogs.
You want to kill one that you, Tracked- Located-Called and killed yourself.
A feeling you'll never forget!
Have you tried Upper Hllsborough WMA on the hillsborough River in Paso County?
IT's just a few mile's from Green Swamp.

RE: How long before you move to another area
Sometimes (Alot of times) they come in silent. Give it at least 10 minutes at each spot.
If you find an area where there is alot of turkey sign sit tight and call softly every 20 minutes. This works for me alot especially on public land.

Dear Sir,
I tried e-mailing you a few minutes ago. I'd like to keep some of this stuff confidential. Is there a reason why you and others won't e-mail . Please let me know so I won't embarrass myself in the future.
Thanks,
Chuck
