835 sight in question????
I have a new 835 ported 26" 12ga. When patterning it for the first time I put an undertaker (for lead) choke in it and shot Fed. #5 3" mags. Here is my dilemna,
at 10 yards it shot a hole clear through the target but at say 25-30 yards it is 6" to 8" left of target and actually off of the 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper (turkey head) completely. Is this common from this set up? Does one normally have to move off of the bird? I have one fiber optic front bead and no rear adjustable sight. Would this make a difference? I will try a different combination tomorrow. I appreciate your thoughts. |

Sometimes they are off like that. My suggestion would be to get an adjustable site for it and then site it in. Don't kentucky windage it.

RE: 835 sight in question????
I had one that shot about a foot high at 40 yards, seems to me that the Mossberg 835's are worst than most for not hitting the point of aim, Try a set of adjustable sites or scope.

RE: 835 sight in question????
Dally,
I work in a gun shop and this is something that you might want tohave a gunsmith look at. Every now and then when the factory is fitting the choke, it can mess up the threading by just a fraction of a fraction of an inch. This causes it to be accurate at a real close range, but be way off the chart further out. It could also be your sights, but it sounds like this is what is wrong...if it is whats wrong, and the gun is reletively new, they should replace the barrel free of charge. |
RE: 835 sight in question????
mine has adjustable sights. it shot way left and high. i was able to correct the left part, but it still shoots about 8" high at 30 yards. i just have to remember to aim at his beard...
