What kind of glue for a glass call?

If anybody here makes their own glass friction calls, what kind of glue and finish do you use? I bought a kit from American Friction and am wanting to get it put together. Also, any ideas on something to put underneath the top glass to make it different and how to do it ? IE...turkey breast feather, picture, etc... Thanks

Most call makers use E600 Industrial Strength Craft Adhesive, Clear. You can get it at Menards or Home Depot. It flexible when it drys, you have to have flex for vibration of fricton surface. As for finish, I like to use a sanding sealer first and then sand with 180 grit paper, put on another coat of sanding sealer and sand again w/ 220 grit, then add poly coating or whatever. You can use shellac, poly, varnish etc.

I've never heard anyone talk about using E600. Most of us use Goop, but some use some type of silicone. As long as it sticks the calling surface down solid and remains flexible, it should work OK. I've heard about some cases of the surface coming loose using Liquid Nail, but know several call makers who use it. As far as finishes go, I start with a coat of Sanding Sealer followed by 3-4 coats of Deft lacquer. After the final coat, I throw the pot back on the lathe to buff it with a cotton cloth. Makes for a nice finish.
