Making dusting areas, worth the effort?
 

If you make a dusting area where none are around, will it be used? What if the soil is rocky, etc. would it be worth taking soil there, and if so, what kind and how big should it be, etc.

Probably not, most birds will have areas they like to dust, it`s easier to just find where they are dusting now. I`ve found that they use the same areas to dust most years.

Where I am at, there really aren't any natural, open dirt areas for them to dust.

I`ve found birds dusting in the timber, alot of dusting areas are sheltered. They have to dust so their doing it somewhere. Find the spot then after the action cools in the morning go to that area, grap a seat and have a nap. They`ll show up eventually.

Hens Frequent Dusting Area More So Then Toms. Look for dusting areas on top of lil knoles.
We have a sand pit near the farm the go there alot...mostly hens but sometimes a tom follows a hen in there. ive found some in an alfalfa-barley-peas field to.
