Wheeler is the place I heard somebody say they were gonna have a big hog hunt. Either way, hogs are everywhere up here and they're running off the turkeys.
True, it's a national forest, but you are confusing it a bit. The Black Warrior WMA is located within the Bankhead NF. If hunting on ANY WMA in the state you can hog hunt with only those weapons approved for whatever season is open at the time. IF hunting on NF/private land only then you are correct. The hog season (any caliber) opens March 1-14. Hunter orange requirements are also in effect during that time. The hog numbers have exploded. I believe that they are destroying nests more than anything. If anyone wants to take some shots at some and get some scouting in I could use some help. |
I wanna open this back up. Has anybody been to Bankhead or Black Warrior WMA this year yet? If so how's it looking? I'm looking to try it out tomorrow afternoon after work and maybe a few more days later on. I've never been, but I live in Hartselle and I'm having zero luck back home on the weekends.
While I'm on the subject of National Forests and WMA's, has anybody had any luck this year at Talladega or Choccolocco? That's really close to home and if things don't pick up at my land I'm gonna get with my buddy and start hunting those places. Like I said I haven't had much time to hunt this year and have limited scouting reports. Any info would be appreciated. |
I forgot hunting hours end at 1:00 PM everyday. Won't be going after work I guess. Well how's the hunting been anyways?
