RE: Team 4 Roll Call
Just found out I was on the team. I'm a 22 year old college student from Georgia. I have class from 11:00 to 3:00 everyday. So I'll be in the woods just about everyday (morning and afternoon). I don't work, so going to school and hunting is all I have to do. My season runs from March 26-May 15. I kill about 2 birds every year. I have been turkey hunting since I was 12 years old. Whatever yall want to call the team is cool with me.

RE: Team 4 Roll Call
Hi Guys! Finally checking in - was sick all last week and still not 100%. [:'(]
Am I the only female on the team? Don't matter... Before you guys go thinking "Aw shucks we got a girl on the team" just keep in mind I was on the winning team last year with my average gobbler. My 2nd gobbler in three years of hunting.;) Also a PA hunter so we get a late start. There are over a hundred birds in the area - seen them all winter. So there's going to be a lot of action. Some nights they roost in the trees right behind the house. I'll be using my Remington 870 Express with a great turkey choke. My father gave me a whole bag full of box calls last summer since he doesn't use them anymore. I bagged my turkey with an H.S. Strut diaphragm call but I do like the raspy sounds of the box calls. I'll just have to see what brings them in... I like the team name and logo, so kudos to the creators of them. By the way, if you guys still need help with attaching your logo to your signature, just let me know and I'll post the directions. Glad to get to know you all!:) quiksilver: where do you usually hunt around the 'Burgh? I hunt on my property here in Armstrong Co. but I do have access to property in McDonald in Allegheny Co. and Cecil in Washington Co. |
RE: Team 4 Roll Call
I hunt most of the western 2/3 of Fayette County, and the Eastern 2/3 of Greene County. I'm trying out a few new spots in the Greensburg area, but I'll probably tag out in Greene.
Once the groundhogs start coming out, I'll go out and find some new areas and do some varmint shooting/turkey scouting. I'll have a better gauge of what I'm working with in about a month or so. |
RE: Team 4 Roll Call
pahunterjen how do you get the thing in the sig?
|
RE: Team 4 Roll Call
Joe A - I didn't know they had turkeys in HI. I knew they had some boars but never knew about the gobblers.

RE: Team 4 Roll Call
QS,
We've had Rio's here since the mid-late 50's. So far the only spring season is on the Big Island. The best guestimate is that we have 33,000 birds. Jan & Feb of last year my NWTF chapter helped the state release 16 turkeys on Oahu. Last spring we saw 10 chicks in the 3-4# size range. If we can get a decent population on Oahu plus the one on Kauai; in a few years we might try to develop an award for a state slam (a tom from Big Island, Oahu & Kauai). That'd be cool. |
RE: Team 4 Roll Call
Guys, if you want the pic in your signature the first thing you need to do is have a website to host it on (such as photobucket.com).
Photobucket.com will host your pics for free. Here's what you do... 1) Right click your mouse on the turkey pic 2) choose the 'Save Image As' option 3) save the image somewhere on your computer where you can find it easy and give it an easy name to remember 4) go to your account at Photobucket.com (or other photo hosting site) 5) upload the turkey pic 6) copy the new image location - it should look something like this: ![]() 7) go to your profile on Huntingnet.com 8) scroll down to 'your signature' and enter the image location exactly as you copied it 9) make sure you click the little box that says to always attach signature to posts 10) make sure you save or update your profile and it should be working Don't copy my image location as I have it above since I added an extra space and x's so that you could see how it is supposed to look. I'll be checking in now and then so if you have trouble I'll try to help. It's easier than it may seem. |
RE: Team 4 Roll Call
Very interesting Joe
Glad to see that the NWTF's efforts are having an impact outside the continental U.S. Do you guys have a large base of turkey hunters buying licenses to hunt the birds in Oahu? How and why were the Rio's introduced on the island? I'm guessing somebody stocked the first birds, but my question is why was the Rio selected instead of the Gould's, Merriam's or Eastern? Better suited for the habitat? |
RE: Team 4 Roll Call
Greetings Bandits!!!
I just checked in to this forum, been off post for a long time--many stories--broke my hand, had a hernia, computer blew up, etc. But here I am, anyway. I'm hunting Kansas, South Dakota and Minnesota, for sure, maybe Missouri if I get lucky in Kansas this spring. Maybe Missouri anyway, lucky or not. We shall see . . . I'll be carrying my Mossberg 935 Turkey gun, short barrel and Rhino choke. I'm getting a Bushnell Holoscope and a LazyLeg shooting stick put on the gun next week, since I broke my hand and it will be in a cast, so I'll be shooting left-handed (and one handed) this spring. I'm going to try the new Federal Heavyweight 3 1/2" #6 FliteControl shells, if I can find any, and if they pattern decently. If not, I'll stick with my old Federal lead #6s, they're tried and true. I shot a five-bearded turkey a couple of years ago, which was one of the higher scoring birds and helped win my team, at the time, first place in this annual event. I'll be returning to the same area this spring, so I hope multi-bearded turkeys are indigenous to the area!!! How many turkeys you guys killed?? My memory puts me at 19 so far, probably more, plus I got my wife addicted a few years ago, as well, and she's shot a couple herself!!! I've been at it quite a few years, and have been beaten by a wise old gobbler or two a few times, as well!!! Hope that we all have a safe and successful spring!! Good luck to all!!! |
RE: Team 4 Roll Call

RE: Team 4 Roll Call
QS,
Why Rio's? Don't know. Our state pres. found records that sometime in the 60's a few Merriam's were also released by a private landnwner. In some pix, toms are whiter-lighter than others. A few yrs ago, some turkey biologists thought my friend got his pix mixed up..."Nice Merriam's. Uh...no it's a Rio Grande from Hawaii. What?! Are you sure? That really looks like a Merriam's" Gould's would be cool, but given the problems of introduced-exotic species, I think we'll just have to work with what we've got. |
RE: Team 4 Roll Call
any1 seen anything? i got close to some toms the other day 12yrds cant wait

RE: Team 4 Roll Call
Sorry it took so long to post, been off the forum for awhile, but I am back and enjoying reading the responses. I will be hunting central Georgia this season and as many of you know, we start this Saturday (3/26). I can't wait for the season opener and plan on hunting all week thru April 4th. It's going to be fantastic. Went out last weekend and saw 12, one of the biggest gobblers I have ever seen. Saw two strutting in the middle of a field with two hens. I know we are on a hunting forum, but seeing all those turkeys last weekend was enough for me, just to get the privaledge to experience their mating activities really gives me a lot of satisfaction. Last two years I have shot two birds each season and have had birds score in the 50's. Cant' wait for the start of the season, turkey hunting is truely the greatest of all hunts!!

RE: Team 4 Roll Call
Sorry I haven't responded earlier, I have been off the forum for awhile. Glad to be back and reading all of the news that's going on. I will be hunting in central Georgia and have been out scouting the past three weekends. Our season starts this Saturday and I will be off work until April 5th.
Saw 12 turkeys last weekend and also saw the biggest tom I have seen in a while. Last two years I have taken two turkeys each season. The turkeys have sored in the high 40's to mid 50's. Last weekend I witnessed two toms strutting for two hens and it was a fantastic sight. I have to say that I get as much satisfaction out of watching as actually being in the field hunting them. However, I can't wait to match my wits against the wild turkey because I know I will need a lot of luck to bag a couple of them this year. Best of luck to the other team members and above all else, be careful and observe all laws and safety rules. |
RE: Team 4 Roll Call

RE: Team 4 Roll Call
Just typed a whole long post and it never showed up on the board! Darn that makes me mad!!![:@][:@][:@]
OK, I'll type it up again... Sorry I haven't posted. Been busy, been sick, had a death in the family, etc.... The weather has been lousy here - raining all the time. Yesterday I finally got out to do some scouting. I could see that the birds have been thru the woods as they tore everything up with their scratching. On my way back I walked the edge of the fireld and found a two point shed. I was happy to find it as it was the first one I've found here. Walked a little firther to find a coupple toms and hens at the far end of the field. One tom was strutting and paid no mind to me and the others ran off when they saw me. It looks like hunting will be good this year. You guys are fortunate to be able to bag multiple birds. If you get your bird in the first week then you have three more weeks of wihing you could still hunt. Perhaps I can get my husband out to hunt one since he never has before. At least it will get me out there again. Good luck guys! 270 - I'd go for that albino if possible - he would look awesome mounted. :) |
