When Do Turkeys ?

What time of day do turkeys usely go to roost ?

I was thinking of going scouting in the afternoon and
looking for where they roost.

And listioning for where they are when they go to roost.

Is this a good way to scout ?

Thank You

Most of the time they go to roost just before dark. If the weather is bad they may roost up early, but then they don't gobble from the roost much either.

yeah , around here they wait till about 10 seconds before dark, which happens to be about 10 seconds before the 'yotes wake up...;)

and they seem to fly down earlier and earlier every year, last year it was DARK when they were flying oFF the roost.

busy birds..

Around here, they gather in fields late in the evening, and just as it starts to get dark, they fly up. Yes, it is an excellent way to scout. If you can find where they are roosting, you can also find where they are landing in the morning, which, by the way, around here is usually the same field as the evening before. Just as in deer hunting, when scouting, don't get too close.
