RE: 20 or 12 gauge?
20 gauges make fine turkey guns if you work within their limitations. With the exception of the bird killed at 55 yards, all the above birds were killed stone dead!! |
RE: 20 or 12 gauge?
When I started turkey hunting, I used a Remington 870 Express 3 in. full choke, with remington #4 Nitro Mags. I used it for three years and killed 4 birds with it. The longest shot being 38 yards on a 23.5 pound bird.

RE: 20 or 12 gauge?
I personally hunt with a 12 gauge but if you make sure to take a good shot to make a clean kill you can be just as successful with a 20 even though it might have a little less range.

RE: 20 or 12 gauge?
The 12 will throw more lead, but the 20 is fine for turkeys. You just have to know your limits. I always recommend a full choke in the 20. Keep the pattern as tight as possible.
