new to turkey hunting
Hello all, as the title says I have never really turkey hunted before as the oppertunities never really opened to me. That has changed for me. I am very fortunate to have permission to hunt a 110 acre piece of woods south of San Antonio. I hunted it regulary for deer and feral hogs. This past season I had been seeing more and more turkeys. I don't think they get any pressure from the surrounding ranches either. This past Saturday while repairing a fence, I watched over 20 turkeys (I guess they are rio grande) from a distance. We walked into the woods just to get a look at them, they would let us get as close as 80 yards and they would casually walk off. Its amazing to me! I figured they would have put distance between us at much more rapid rate. For the spring season, I plan to hunt them. I am in need of a basic call that has success in south Texas and some advise. How should I setup for this hunt?

RE: new to turkey hunting
If they let you get 80 yards close that should be interesting.
Get a ground blind and a easy call to use and you are set. If you can use it a disphragm call is nice. I use primos. Good Luck |
RE: new to turkey hunting
Alrighty, thx for the advice. I am excited to no end! Just watching all those beautiful birds has me itching to go. Theyare already coming to my deer and hog feeders, but I better check the state and countuy reg's before hunting over them;). I will post dig pics after the hunt (hopefully).
