Why so many calls?
 

Is it just a matter of having selection, or does each individual call's "tone" vary enough that a particular turkey would come in to one as opposed to the other?
Basically if you gave an expert caller a single call or 2, would he have just as much success as having access to 10 calls?

I think everybody just had there own opinion on what they like more. Or what they have had good luck with before. If a guy went out with a call and got a huge tom with it, I'm sure he would be overjoyed with its success! My opinon. Good luck!

more calls = more versatility. Its tough to get very loud calls from a slate/pot call, but its also difficult to get the soft subtle purrs you can get from the slate, out of a box call. And you cant, with any other call, beat the hands and motion free characteristics of a mouth call. Plus, if your gonna find a good spot to set up, you need a solid locator call as well.

Just like that, you already have 4 different kinds of calls, not to mention how many of each version you carry.
Calls are, for the most part, small and light, so why not carry several, can only benefit;)

every call sounds diff...and theres a trap...you keep purchasing more calls looking for the "perfect one"

To me every turkey is different and will respond to different sounds.

You use one call you might get a response and then you might not.

So you try another sound and he will respond.

Turkeys are like people

OK,This is just my opinion on the subject.Somethin I've noticed over the years.I don't think the tone of a call(raspy,high,etc.) matters as much as the rythem of the guy usin it.Most people(not all) will run a mouthcall faster than a slate type call and a slate type call faster than a box call.The exception to the tone rule is on a windy day a higher pitched call will reach out a little better.

Rybo, to answer your question imho yes a good caller with only a couple of calls be it friction or airdriven WOULD have just as much success even if he had 10!To many fellas get caught up in the that they think they have to sound perfect to call a turkey in!NOT TRUE!!!This has alot to do with the rythym Jim talks about!To me knowing when to call,using the right call(yelp,cluck,etc)and your set-up is what a makes a good turkey caller/hunter successful!Being versitale with a # of turkey calls no doubt is a plus and if you can sound like the sweetest hen in the country more power to ya but set-up in the wrong position,highball them when you shouldn't or remain silent when they want you to speak and you'll come home empty handed and frusterated!!:)Bob

We all just love buying calls. I know I do! After a few years of lugging around every call known to man I have slimmed it down to 1 slate, 1 glass, 1 paddle boat and 1 owl hooter.
I do however change the slate and glass calls out every couple of hunts as I always hunt the same land.

I use the Several Good calls and Multiple Strikers Mode. Each Striker on the Friction Calls give's the Call a different sound. It's easier to carry Strikers than Pots for me.

Bobgobble summed it up pretty good. I would like to add that I have a few different calls because I want some variety. I hunt the same three areas every year, and don't want the birds to get used to hearing the same hen. If I spook a bird on a particular day and go back later I would like to try a different sound.
