When calling turkeys how often should you call ?

How long should you call ?

And what is the most coman sound to make ?

Im thinking yelps.

Diffently not the putt putt sound I learned the hard way LoL

how often you call depends on the mood of the gobbler. you will learn how to judge this with experience. if you get a gobber to answer your call, keep up the calling to see if he answers back. Sometimes a bird may answer once and be on his way. Patience is very important. IT's very tempting in turkey hunting to get up and move if its been 15-20 minutes since you heard a gobble, so you get up and a quiet bird flies off. my best advice to you is to do some scouting before season. find where the turkeys roost and sit somewhere where you can watch and hear them when they flydown. Listen to the hens and see how the gobbler responds. My best advice in turkey hunting is that you have to try to immitate a hen, not try and be the loudest most excited hen in the woods. i barely call at all.....if i know he's coming , i'll call if i have too, quietly just in case he's close, if no response, then i might kick it up a hair.....i'm a sucker for clucking and purrin'.....yelps occassionally...in the morning i might do a tree yelp and/or flydown sound, then i quiet down for the most part, calling every 20 minutes or so, longer sometimes, the biggest mistake is overcalling and having no patience...
if i have hens talkin' to me, i'll talk right back, trying to make every sound they make....like he said, every hunt is different, you'll get to know when, how much, all that good stuff with experience.....every moment hunting is a learnin' lesson....;)
