Box Calls
Well, I've been holding out on buying a box call hoping that there would be some to look at and try at the sportsmans show this past weekend. I must say that I was dissappointed with the show here in Denver. There was only one booth Primos and they only had one box call. With all that said can you guys point me in the right direction?
This is going to be my first turkey season in many years and I need a good box call. I already have a Knight and Hale "ol yeller" and some QB mouth calls. I have three videos and have been practicing every day with what I have. I seem to be better with the mouth calls though. I'm not sure if it matters but I will be hunting just south and west of Denver for Merriums(sp). |
RE: Box Calls
I have about 5 box calls, and the one I would recommend even though it wasn't that expensive is the Hurricane box call by Quaker Boy. I think it cost me about 20 bucks when I bought it. I liked the idea of being able to use it in the rain, but was very surprised to find out it really sounds great! No chalking is needed either! Last year hunting in Pa., this was the call that they answered. After getting a response using this box call, my cousin and I took turns calling in a longbeard for each other. We both scored on the same day, and we had tried a few mouth calls before I got them to answer using the Hurricane. Here is some info about the call:
It’s Hurricane season and this box call doesn’t mind. Quaker Boy has once again hit a home run with its newest edition to their box call line. The Hurricane Box call has been built with new technology eliminating the need to maintain the call. The new Ergo-Grip paddle handle is designed so you can sound like an Old Hen or Young Hen on the right or left side of the call. This call will work equally as well on wet stormy or hot dry days. Due to the special new coating this call should never be chalked or sanded. Sanding will damage the special waterproof coating. Enter the eye of the Hurricane! Try it, I think you will like it.
