New Turkey Hunter with questions
 

While hunting this year I have heard loads of turkeys everytime I get in my stand. I saw 3 gobblers with long beards. Here are my questions.
1. Will my 37 Ithica modified 23/4 inch shells be enough gun using # 4 shot?

2.For a beginner what is the best call to use and how often. I'll be hunting Osceola Turkeys in Central Florida.

Your 2.75" shells, believe it or not, will hit harder than most 3" shells. They have more velocity, just have less shot. If your gun patterns well, you are not going to lose a turkey because of your ammo. As far as calls, a slate-type call is easy to work, and you'll sound like a turkey the first time you use it.
Calling frequency is a problem for a lot of hunters. You can call too much, but you can't hardly call too little. If you get an answer to your call, he heard you and he knows where you are. Shut up. You'll get a lot more action by playing hard to get than by seeming to be too eager.
There are exceptions, If you are working a gobbler with hens, it's a good strategy, to tick the hens off by trying to call the tom away from them. Everything they call you, you call them back. Tom's love two hens talking dirty to one another.

Thankyou , you have been a Big help. I wasn't sure about the gun so thanks for the encouragement. Another hunter told me exactly what you told me about calling Mr. Tom. Last year he said he made one call on the slate box,got an answer and put the call away. It wasn't long and he was taking home a nice turkey. I plan to give it a try this March. I already have a stamp from archery season. I live in central FLorida and am very concerned about the snakes, but that goes with the territory.

i started out with amodel 37 many years ago and definitely killed turks with it try to keep shots under 30 yards and shoot several loads 4,5,6, and get the best pattern good luck
