Choke Tube for a Mossberg 500.......
Well I have killed well over a dozen birds with my Mossberg 500 turkey gun which is pictured below, however I have been using the factory supplied Mossberg turkey choke ever since I bought it. It has not failed me yet on several birds between 35-40 yards, however I am interested in buying another choke for the 05 season to help the performance of this rig a bit.
The gun has the 24' ported turkey barrel on it currently and I am shooting with a 2.5x Tasco shotgun scope. I shoot 3" shells out of it because that is all it is chambered for. I am not comfortable paying $40+ for a box of 10 shells either just to get a choke to perform, I do love the reviews on the nitro hevi shot shells but Winchester Supreme #4's in 3" work well enough for me. I am looking for something that will allow me to consistently kill turkeys at 45 yards and put 200+ pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards. I don't mind paying for a good choke, but really don't want to pay that much for shells.
Most of the good chokes I see advertised for mossbergs, seem to be only for the 835. Do they work with the 500 as well? If not, any suggestions on a good choke for the 500? This is my turkey only gun, so I don't have a ton of money to just get rid of it and get into a 870 or 835, so I am really only looking to get a few extra yards out of my 500 for now.

Rick, i shoot the 835, but use an older UNDERTAKER choke. i have killed consistently out to 50 yards, using your loads in a 3.5" . i think that the udertaker should fit your gun as well, and run about 20, 25 bucks.

I think that the 835 is over-bored and the 500 is not. So, chokes for the 835 won't fit in a 500. I think the 500 takes the same choke as a Winchester or older invector Browning. I've got an older Browning and my buddy has borrowed my chokes to shoot in his son's 500. By the way, I've got an Undertaker tube as well and it shoots way better than my factory turkey tube.

The Mossberg 500 uses a Winchester Choke tube you can not use a choke for an 835. So any choke tube marked as a Win Choke can be use for the 500. From what I have heared .665 size choke tube works great.

Nice gun Rick!!My oldest son shoots the exact same set-up without the scope! We have found that Remington nitros (1-5/8 #4's at 1280fps)seem to be what the gun likes best using the factory turkey choke! You can buy a box for around the 12$ mark!!

A Hastings .665 non ported choke in a Mossberg 500, combined with Winchester #6 shot Supreme 3" shells patterned as well as anything specifically made to take turkeys that I've tried. I've compared this relatively inexpensive rig to (1) Winchester and (2) Remington 870 turkey guns and was extremely impressed with the little Mossberg. We know that all guns are to their own pattern, but pulling the trigger with the Hastings leaves little doubt the bird is tagged, even out to 50 yards. You may want to try one in yours.
