RE: bow for turkeys
I have been fortunate to take several with a bow, and I do mean fortunate. At least from my experiences, which is in the hundreds of hours, I'm not sure there is anything more challenging...including mature whitetails.
This old bird I arrowed is one of my prized possessions and has a place in my living room:). A place, I might add, that none of my whitetails have ended up;). ![]() ![]() |

Hey Two Beards , Thats a good looking bird!!!!!;) Did you mount that? . Hey jloutbac just a small piece here, lower the poundage on you bow, you may have to hold full draw for a long time. I have took turkeys with a bow but missed many more do to holding back so long and movement. So lower your poundage and practice.....Good Luck.;)

RE: bow for turkeys
I am shooting an outback with 70# and holding 15 - 16 #. I wonder if the poundage might really be to high for turkeys or not. I hear that you dont want the arrow to go all the way thru?

RE: bow for turkeys
When hunting from one of my DB blinds I use a bow set at 65-70 lbs and a huge mechanical, like Rocket's sledgehammer. I want to inflict as much damage as possible...these are tough birds!
When hunting without a blind I use a different bow set at 55-58 lbs and a 'lesser' mechanical, sometimes with a adder point behind the broadhead, like NAP's Spitfire. At this poundage I can draw my bow slowly and hold at fulldraw much longer. Location is everything when it comes to taking turkeys with a arrow. Don't think just because he's got a arrow in him that the game is over. I've lost two longbeards that flew away with my arrow, so know that he can, and will, fly away if the shot is off. Here are 3 BH's I've had success with. * Rocket Sledgehammer -150 grains w/3 1/2" cut * Rocket Hammerhead 4 blade -108 grains w/2" cut * NAP Spitfire -100 grains w/1 1/2" cut ...adder point weighs 25 grains ...not sure why the GIANT picture??? ![]() |

Twobeards
That is one nice bird you got there... I bet he scores around 90 points, which is REALLY something to be proud of. I think i'm gonna try bowhunting my bird this spring, but I'm sure that will be quite the learning experience. |
