FANNY PACK STATEGY

I CURRENTLY HAVE A CAMO FANNY PACK FROM DEER HUNTING. WHAT DOES EVREYONE THINK ABOUT USING IT INSTEAD OF SHELLING OUT FOR A VEST.

Vests are designed to carry your gear in a position you can immediately lean up and sit against a tree and still have access to everything you need. Fanny packs will not give you this, do not have a built in seat and back padding, cannot carry your decoys and dead bird. I love fanny packs for deer hunting but not for turkey hunting. Invest in a good vest with a built in seat and padded back and turkey hunting will become much easier and you'll be able to sit longer.

Everybody has their own preferences. If your pack will hold what you need run with it. Personally I like the M/O Elite vest for the amount of pockets, cusion seat, and convience of carrying all the supplies.

I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH LEFTY THE FANNY PACK WOULD PROBABLY BE IN THE WAY WHEN YOU LEAN UP TO A TREE

I look at buying a vest every year-- then I don't buy it. I don't know about you, but I would eventually have something in every pocket and it would weigh 80 pounds. I stick to a fanny pack because I want to force myself to minimize my gear. I just take it off when I sit down. It only takes a few seconds to put it back on. If I need to move quick, I sling over a shoulder. BTW I saw a new design this year contoured to be carried over the shoulder or like a bandolier. It has a velcro closure if you want to carry it that way for easy adjustment. It was designed for turkey hunters so access to calls and such looks easy. I haven't put my hands on one yet, but it looks like an option. I can't remember who makes it, but I saw it in a catalog, so most shop owners should know what it is.

Watch out for periscopes!

Let me tell ya this, when you get older a vest is about the handiest dang thing i have. The coolest contraption i believe on the vest is the game pouch. When I was younger I just threw them ole gobblers over my shoulder and hauled em all around the turkey woods ending up with a raw shoulder and blood all over my camo. With the vest not only is it safer but cleaner and way easier to haul a bird around the woods especially if your way back in somewhere! The built in back cushion and attachable butt seat are hard to beat too!! :)

Bobgobble2,I agree with you about getting older seems to make those birds seem to get heavier.Thats why I go with my kid and have him pack the birds out!!(as you well know) Hee hee.
