Get a series of different calls that range from subtle to high freq...somtimes a bird will answer to something different.
Spend alot of time scouting where you'll be hunting so you know the terrain. Use terrain features to your advantage...set-up such that you can't see the bird until he's in range since that's when he can see you. Try something different if a bird hangs-up just out of range like scratching in the leaves, or turning your call away from the bird to make him think the hen is leaving. Use a two man set-up when possible with the shooter up from and the caller 10 yards behind. Just some things that have worked for me. |

My meager recommendation, in addition to practice your calling, is to scout when possible and try pattern the turkeys' movements. I would venture that good locations along the turkey's travel routes might make up a little for less than perfect calling technique.
