Turkey Scouting
I went scouting 3/1/02 and took my crow call and it was about 7:30am, I went to check my food plot and the sign was all there, and I hit my crow call and 2 gobbled, so I was really excited about that. Then I went to our other farm to scout there, last year several turkey were there, but when I was looking for sign yesterday, and using my crow call, nothing was happening, keep in mind this is about 10:00 am.
My question is, Is it still to early to tell if the turkey are there or not or do I need to do some other scouting tech. to get results? They were ther last year, I am just totally confused, what should I do? |
RE: Turkey Scouting
I would scout as many places as you can. the more areas you have to hunt the better your chances will be for sure. I would do just some general, quick scouting for now, and worry about actually hearing something until like the week before, that way you know the birds will probably still be there.

RE: Turkey Scouting
me and a buddy spent yesterday and today scounting turkeys and we did see anything that resembled a turkey or even a turkey had been there recently. Hey but we did see upwards of 50 deer(that's right 50!)and an uncountable number of jackrabits. It was a very frustrating weekend but any weekend that I can get to the woods I consider a good one. We will be going back every weekend until we find old tommy boy.
At least some of us are having good luck. |
RE: Turkey Scouting
Couple of questions about the second farm:
1. How many acres? 2. Has anything changed on adjoining farms? 3. Did the guys on the adjoining farms plant anything different this year- or last year? 4. How's your local crow population? we have so many a crow call does me no good at all. 5. Has there been any logging in the immediate area-- especially clearcut? Just some things I look at when I don't find sign where I did last year. |

RE: Turkey Scouting
barefoot,
The farm is about 60 acres, with about 200 acres adjoining, I don't think the adjoining farm has changed, and the crows are everywhere, thet have not logged it that i know of. I think that if I just give it a little time they will be there, The turkeys have not started to seperate yet, What do you think. DOUBLE CLUCK |
