Winchester 1300 Short Turkey
I just saw the new Win. Short Turkey 1300. It is a 12 Ga./3 inch, in MOBU with a 18" barrel.
Does anyone think the 18" barrel would limit the range of this good looking gun? Thanks, Roman. |
RE: Winchester 1300 Short Turkey
A shorter barrel will cost you velocity. You may want to shoot #4's. They would have more impact at lower velocities. On the other hand it would be handy in the brush.

RE: Winchester 1300 Short Turkey
Wingbone is right, you will lose a little velocity, but as long as you know the limits of your gun and its pattern you will have nothing to worry about.

RE: Winchester 1300 Short Turkey
Well thats what I suspected. I bought it yesterday and hope to pattern soon. It's funny, I helped the shop keeper unbox the gun and fell head over heels for it. Had to have go back yesterday and buy.

RE: Winchester 1300 Short Turkey
General rule is 10 fps per inch in difference from test barrel length(usually and 30 inch barrel). So you lose approximately 120 ft/sec at the barrel with the 18" barrel. I doubt the the turkeys will notice.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

been shooting that gun now for a few years. Indian creek with hevi 13 #6. No need for number 4's. Knock down power at long ranges enough to drop adult eastern gobblers like stones. No issue there at all. Enjoy your gun.

This thread started 8 years ago and they don't even make the 1300s any more.
