Harvest times?
We all have our favorite times to hunt gobblers, but what are the times that have yielded, statistically speaking, your best harvest results? My earliest harvest time was 8:10am and my latest was last year, right at the noon closing time. However, most of my successes have taken place between 10am and 10:30am.

RE: Harvest times?
I've worked turkeys at just about all times of the day. I've taken them at flydown, mid-morning, middle of the day, and in the evening. Like you, though, I seem to have more consistent activity in late morning. But I hear the most gobbling at daylight.

RE: Harvest times?
My experience has been somewhat limited (living in a permit draw state), but of the 7 birds I have called in for myself or other; 5 were taken within 30 minutes of first shooting light. The other two were taken between 10 and 11 (our hunt closes at 11:00)

RE: Harvest times?
The earliest I have ever harvested a bird was at about 6:00am. Bird basically flew down right in front of me, and the hunt was over. The latest would be at about 5:30Pm. I had worked this bird early that morning with no luck, and knew where he would be that evening. He was alot more responsive that evening, guess he was lonely. But I'd have to say that most of my serious action usually takes place between 7:30 and 11:00.

RE: Harvest times?
Here in NY we can only hunt till noon. So I would have to say it's a 50/50 type of thing for me. 50% before 9am and 50% after 9am. A couple have been within the last 1/2hr of the morning hunt. Talk about a long time in the woods!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: Harvest times?
Since nearly all of my harvests have been after 10:00am, I guess shouldn't feel so discouraged when flydown occurs and the gobbling and activity ceases. Many times the gobblers go away with hens and don't get left alone until about quitting time. Being forced to hunt public land makes things tough as well because the birds are pressured starting a month before the season starts.

RE: Harvest times?
I have harvested the majority of my birds before 8:30 a.m., but I have had good success at all different times of the day. Including a few minutes before roosting.

RE: Harvest times?
I'm new to the sport, but I love it! The birds I harvested have came in the morning by 9a.m. I have been real fortunate! It seems to me that the turkeys are real vocal to each other, in the morning. Any time, anywhere it's just great to be hunting!!

RE: Harvest times?
Even though we can hunt till 4:pm.I'm with Maytom as well about 50/50.Half at flydown and most of the others between 9 and 11:00am.I will say this if i have scouted the birds, know the area, and possibly put them to bed, their in deep trouble at flydown. And I try and do this as much as i can! :)

RE: Harvest times?
I have two favorites. One is right off the roost, if a bird is really hot and comes right in just after fly-down, struttin and gobbling his head off. Second is when nothing is going right and mid-morning nothing is gobbling, then you get a gobbler fired up and he does everything perfect at about your 3rd setup.
