Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

I've taken birds from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm...right place at the right time, any time can be productive. It's tough to pick one time better than another, but I know one thing...you can't shoot 'em if your not in the woods.

I've been keeping track of shot times for years, and with just under 300 shots taken by people I've guided, plus myself, here's the results:

First hour after sunrise----------32.1%
From 1-2 hours after sunrise-----20.1%
From 2-3 hours after sunrise-----13.1%
From 3-4 hours after sunrise----- 9.5%
From 4-5 hours after sunrise----- 9.5%
From 5-6 hours after sunrise----- 5.8%
From 6-7 hours after sunrise----- 3.3%

Total of all afternoon shots------ 6.6%

These figures are a bit weighted towards morning results, because that's when I've done most of my hunting, but in states which allow it, I'm out there all day. Afternoon hunting can be great! Also, these numbers show a bias towards early morning, because once a turkey has been killed, most of the time we leave the woods for the day.

Anyway, these figures mean absolutely nothing, because the best time to kill a turkey is whatever time of the day he comes to your call. That can be ANY time of the day, so hunt all of the available hours. The only guarantee you get when turkey hunting, is that you won't kill one unless you're out there in the woods trying!

All of my turkeys have been shot within a few hours after first light.
