RE: Custom Box Calls

I played his boxes at the NWTF convention. Didn't impress me any. The boxes look nice and to have so many choices available to you concerning materials is a plus. However, the sound is ordinary, nothing special at all.

RE: Custom Box Calls

Well i have a few favorites myself, but that Lamar Williams is another one that is a little off of his rocker. The prices he charges for his boxes are rediculous. I played them and they sound nice, but i walked right over to Tony Reynolds and bought a Carolina long box that sounds just as good, if not better, than anything Lamar had at a fraction of the cost. That guy believes himself to be a legend in his own time. Why else would he charge so much for an ordinary box call??

RE: Custom Box Calls

R4P, i don't know what you paid for your box in the 70's, but Lamar was selling his boxes from $250 being the cheapest all the way to a little over $500 for his long boxes. If my memory serves me, i didn't notice any special artwork, the woods did not look exotic. Just plain Jane boxes with a sweet sound and an unrealistic price tag.

RE: Custom Box Calls

I have quite a few custom calls of my own, and each one I have I have taken to the woods to see how the Turkeys like them, sence they are a better judge of sound than me. Some custom calls are Great like Tom Laska's calls for example his will call turkeys. "BUT" It has a lot to do the part of the country you are in too. There are a lot of custom calls on the market today, Proturkeycaller makes a Great Custom Call has Great sound and it will call Turkeys too.

RE: Custom Box Calls

there is a guy here in southwest mississippi that makes calls for WILL PRIMOS and PRESTON PITTMAN. he also makes his own called WHITE FEATHER. his name is ANTHONEY FOSTER. i had a tragic car wreck and this guy made me a beautiful box call and engraved the bottem w/ my name and a scripture. the call is awsome sounding and he is really a good guy in my book. he does not sell any for $250-$500, but they are still really nice.
