Colorado Turkey

Looking for an area to hunt turkey in CO.
I've heard about southwest areas, or just southcentral. Anyone on here know ?

TURKEY BEARD

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THIS AREA TO HUNT? I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO HUNT
IN CO FOR SOME TIME NOW BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHERE TO START. IS THIS UNIT A
DRAW OR CAN YOU BUY TAGS OVER THE COUNTER? HOW HARD WAS IT TO FIND TURKEYS
IN THIS AREA??
ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED

My son and I were both able to connect in 1999 when we hunted west of Pueblo in the San Isabel Nat'l Forest. We were hunting along the High Line Trail near Wetmore. Good luck.

RE: Colorado Turkey

THANKS FOR THE INFO, I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO HUNT IN SOUTHERN CO
OR NEW MEXICO FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. IT'S HARD TO FIND OUT
ANYTHING IN THOSE AREAS. I WOULD LOVE ANY INFORMATION YOU MIGHT
COULD GIVE ME. THANKS AGAIN!! <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote<font size=1 face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>
The way I come up with out-of-state areas to hunt is to get the NWTF population density map and the NWTF subspecies distribution map. This way I can look for the particular subspecies that I want and also make sure that it's got the density to make the trip worthwhile. Then I look on different state maps to find public land that's available.

Actually, the year that I went to CO, I really wanted to go to the Black Hills in Wyoming (NE corner) but the lady told me that it was a draw only area. Turns out that she was WRONG and it was over the counter for that area but by going to Colorado I was able to see my grandmother for what turned out to be the last time.

Yes, in 1999 it was an over the counter tag. I had mine ahead of time and my son was able to get his from the Cons. Dept. office in Denver the day before we hunted.

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INFO. OKLAHOMA SEASON BEGINS 4/6 THIS YEAR, SO IF
I MAKE THE TRIP IT WOULD BE THE LAST PART OF APRIL. BY THE WAY DID
YOU EVER MAKE THE BLACK HILLS TRIP?? I HAVE BEEN THERE BUT NOT TO HUNT,
IT IS PRETTY COUNTRY.

THANKS
