Scope for turkey gun

I was thinking about putting a scope on my turkey gun. What is popular for turkey scopes, do people use the red dot type or is thier a better product. Just looking for a little direction and advice. Thanks in advance

You will get all kinds of opinions on this. It is personal preference, there are guys that use Holo sites, red dots, diamond reticles, they all perform well. If I were you I would go to the gun shop look thru all of them and decide that way. Alot depends on the price range you are looking for also.

I think that Leopould has the 1x-4x scope that won't magnify at lowest setting and cause bird to appear closer than he actually is.
That is absolutely true! I use that very scope and it works wonderfully on my 870. You won't go wrong with a Leupold.....buy a good scope the first time and you'll only have to pay once!

As most have said , get the scope you like. As for magnafication , your going to want a low power as when hunting birds , it is all close shots. I use the tasco 1.75x5 and leave it on 3 power. I like to see the head up close and personal when a squeeze off on the trigger. But I do not use the scope to judge as the bird moves into range , I always look over the scope untill I'm ready.

Another great idea that I have used for years is flip open scope caps, as it tends to rain at this time of year. Never had a problem with opening up the caps when the bird is in range. Make sure if you plan on useing caps , fined a pair that fits tight on the scope , as I have found some that do pull off on branches...BT
