mossberg 12 gauge

What do you think about the Mossberg 400, pump action 12 gauge 3" magnum? Is it a dependable gun? What year was it made in? Is $250.00 canadian a good price for the Mossberg 400 used?

Any info would be awesome? mark thanks:D;):)

Are you sure it's not a 500? They are ok. I'm a Remington man...

A goog friend of mine had a M-500 and it didn't pattern very well with the factory turkey choke but after he put a hastings turkey choke in it, it pattern pretty good....

I would get some turkey targets and some Win HV #5's and head to the range and see how many hits you can get into the vitals(neck vertabra and brain) at 40 yards...

I shoot a Mossberg 500 which patterns very well with the factory turkey choke. I've got very confidence out to 45 yards. I've shot both Winchester and Federal loads with good results.

ive killed alot of game with my 500...turkey, pheasant, grouse, woodcock, tons of squirrels, rabbits, gesse, doves, shot at ducks with it....probably more....sometimes more then one species in a day......one day i goose hunted the morning then went dove hunting in the evening......ive never had a problem with it....and ive shot all types of loads out of it....only thing i idnt fire from it is a slug....and i will do that soon.....never had a problem...except when i forgot the reload while shooting chuckars! lol....its a good cheap reliable gun imo.....doesnt pattern like my remington turkey gun.....but i did play with loads with it either.....it breaks clays and drops everything that runs or flys....so im happy.....its my all around shotgun....ive had it in some nasty stuff and it always worked for me......good luck with yours

Troutdudes, I've used a M-500 with a fixed full choke for the passed 15 years on turkeys. Longest shot I've taken was 53 paces. Try some different loads at various ranges. You'll find a good shell for the gun.
As for the $250 not a bad price if the gun is in fair shape.

I got an M-500 and for the money you can't go wrong....I've had it five years and bagged four birds with it...had my first miss so I can't say it(the gun) never misses, but I'm sure that was due to a "Nut" attached to the trigger;)

The factory choke seesm fine to me... I run Winnie's, Feds, or Hevi-shot through it and I've got kills out to 47 paces. No need for a 31/2 inch shell this bugger kicks good enough...they're a good gun and the price you paided is about right for the model.
