? for mossberg users

THIS WILL BE MY FIRST YEAR TURKEY HUNTING,
I HAVE READ MANY OF THE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS ON THE 835. SOME OPINIONS FAVOR THIS GUN SOME NOT SO FAVORABLE. MY QUESTION IS FOR THE HUNTERS WHO DO, WHAT CHOKE IS BETTER THAN THE FACTORY AND WHAT SHOT SHELLS SEEM TO WORK THE BEST PATTERN, MY FIRST HUNT WILL BE IN FLORIDA, GREEN SWAMP WMA, MAYBE I SEE SOME OF THE FLORIDA HUNTERS THERE THIS YEAR.
THANKS FOR ALL THE INFORMATION ALL OF YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THIS FORUM.

If you haven't already done so, pattern your gun with the factory choke first. Try several loads. If your not satisfied with the pattern, you might try a star-dot or one of the better names like "kicks". I prefer the Federal turkey loads. My 835 likes the 5's with the factory choke the best. It's gonna cost you a little and probably dislocate your shoulder. Good luck this season.

I still use the factory extended turkey choke with Winchester 4's.

I still use the factory extra-full turkey choke that came with the gun. I shot Winchester Supreme Double X Magnum #6 3 1/2" thru it and it does just fine. But a guns pattern will be different from gun to gun. You may have to spend a couple of bucks to find out what is good for your gun.

I have a Hastings extended choke tube in my 835. It uses 3.5 inch #4 Winchester shells.
It is a turkey thumper.

I have the Mossberg 835 Vicking grade that they made back in '96 I shoot 3.5 Win. supremes #6 with an hs strut undertaker choke tube (.690) it patterns pretty well, maybe not as well as a really nice choke tube from rhino,or kicks or whatever, but it will get the job done. I have been hunting with this gun for about 5 years so I am going to lay it down for you, if you want a gun that can get wet when you fall in the creek, drop in the mud while duck hunting and never miss a lick, never clean, use as a boat paddle, don't mind taking a shot to the shoulder from the 3.5s, don't mind the rattle of the forearm part of the gun, but will put a hurting on the turkeys and everything else this is the perfect gun for you.
