RE: bearded hens

I saw a really neat bearded hen this year myself. Had nice red carbuncles and sported at least a 9 inch beard. Her head was the standard slate gray.

Had I been quick enough as I didn't see her beard at first - I would have filled my Michigan tag with her.

She was a real trophy.

RE: bearded hens

Bobogobble - please do - I am hoping that next year that hen is still there!

I had glassed her from 100 to 20 yards but never saw the beard as the cedars where so small. Her head would pop up from time to time as i clicked. Actually when she got to 20 yards she stood motionless for over 20 minutes. I was in a rag ground blind under a cedar and quite comfortable. I would raise and lower y binocs and she never blinked.

She had the neatest carbuncles as I said. but once she came out of the cedars with 2 other hens was when I saw the beard. So was wondering if all hens with pronounced carbuncles actually are bearded?

Don't know - maybe some one else does
