RE: Back surgery
I had back surgery in 1999 its not the best thing to have done.
My op was from s1 to l4 fusion I still have the screws and rods in. The op was not painfull but my hip was the worst as thats where they took bone from for the bone graft. Just take it easy for a few months and do plenty of walking. Do what I do and use the pain as a measure of what you can and cant do. I have not taken any pain killers since I was released from hospital. Hope you have a speedy recovery. |
RE: Back surgery
I had back surgery in 88, It took awhile but I'm back to doing about whatever I want, maybe just a little differently than I used to, but I have no back or leg pain now, before surgery I could'nt do nothing, I could'nt sit, lay or sleep without constant pain. I hope you have a quick and complete recovery.

RE: Back surgery
What procedure did you have done?
|
RE: Back surgery
Had back surgery in 78. You can come back to almost where you were, but it takes time. You will be in my prayers.
|
RE: Back surgery
Charlie I had a ruptured disk and some pinched nerves, I had lost all my reflexes in my right leg, about 3 months after surgery I regained my reflexes and over a period of about 3 years I continued to improve, the first year it was kind of touch and go with alot of visits back to the Dr. Doing good now.
|
RE: Back surgery
I had the same thing. I had 3 pieces of the disk break off and hit the nerve. Kinda lost some use of my calf muscle which makes me limp a little. But so far I feel pretty good. Still have a limp but not as bad. Hopefully by next spring I can run those ridges and hollows again!!!!

RE: Back surgery
Yeah Mr Longbeard just take care of yourself and do what the Drs. say and you should get along pretty good, I have a brother that did'nt quit the line of work he was in and he has had 2 surgeries and still hurts like the dickens. Him and I was in the same line of work, the Dr told me to find another job and I did but he has'nt and he still has alot of problems.

RE: Back surgery
I had disc peices removed from my back about a year ago. When those peices float around and start hitting nerves it can wreck ya.
Take it easy and heal up. |
RE: Back surgery
ORIGINAL: Charlie P You guys have lamnectomy's or fusions? I'm sure that they do things a bit different today. My surgery was an experiment, but it has worked well. |
RE: Back surgery
Yea I plan on doing a lot of taking it easy!!!!
My job is pretty physical but I plan on kicking it back a notch or two;);) I'm off for the next 5 weeks so I hope I can get a little fishing in soon... |
RE: Back surgery
I know where you're comimg from :( Had my back surgery in '94 and it turned into meningitis and I was in the hospital for almost three weeks. Thank God I made it through it and that I've been back trouble free since :D
I'll be heading under the knife in less than two weeks for an eye surgery. Then I'll have to wait three weeks and have the other one done. Hopefuly this will get me back on the 3D range. If you've seen any of my turkey pics from the past five years, you can see that my eyes proprude out a lot. They were never like that until I got an over-active thyroid disease called Graves. I can shoot my bow now but if I shoot it a lot like at a 3D shoot, I get double vision, headaches and very frusrated [:@] Did a lot of research on the operation and the doctor so things should go well ;) Take it easy there Ken and make a full recovery :D and I'll do the same here in NH so that we both won't have to skip any seasons!! |
RE: Back surgery
Thanks buddy. Good luck on the surgery!!!!
|
RE: Back surgery

RE: Back surgery
WISH YOU THE BEST.
HAD THE SAME SURGERY 16 YEARS AGO AND HAVE NOT BEEN THE SAME SINCE. got an infection in the spinal canel and had 4 emergency surgeries in 3 days to save me.(that may have been a mistake for the wife)LOL:D[:o]. got two 11" plates and 10 screws and a computer in my spine. I guess I do OK for what I been through.at least I can still get around to hunt. just be sure to do as the Dr. says and be very careful and ,walk , walk , walk and walk some more.that help all the muscles keep going. |
RE: Back surgery
Welp the surgery has been done for about 2 weeks and I feel pretty good:D I think I will be making a full recovery. Just in time for Bow season:D
Thanks everyone for the kind words!!! |
RE: Back surgery
That's great!!!
Be sure and ask your doctor what you do and what you should avoid in the way of physical activities. |
RE: Back surgery
Hey Mr. Longbeard I hope you heal up well. I too am familiar with back troubles. I have two buldging disks in my lower back. between the S1 and L4 and Between L4 and L3. It sure can get discouraging at times.
