Calling It Quits
Sorry Team 5. I tried. RI season is over for me, work commitments keeping me from getting out the last days. Still have a last chance for CT, but think I'm gonna work on my boat Saturday instead. Although I have only hunted 4 seasons, this was my worst. Heard NO gobbling at all in either CT or RI, except for two very distant gobbles in a public WMA my last time out. Saw one bird beating wings and getting out of dodge my second time out, on my way into the woods for about my 10th set up of the day, but that was it. I should have known the season would be this way, since I have seen birds EVERYWHERE that I couldn't hunt, even feeding inside the gate of where I work, and thats a pretty heavy traffic area, not exactly the boonies... Oh well, time to concentrate on some fishing and think about next season. Congrats to all who have scored.

RE: Calling It Quits
Hey RIStrutStopper,
I know what you mean about a "silent spring." Seems some times are just like that. The best day I had as far as turkey seeing was concerned was a pre-season scouting day when I had a tom spittin' and drummin' and struttin' 15 yards from me for about 20 minutes, then saw over 300 birds in a flock at another area. I thought it was going to be a great season, then came real hunting time, and things were super tough. I did get some turks, but not "classic" by any means. And for me, it seemed the woods were mostly silent. Hate that. Love to hear gobblin', that's why I hunt 'em.
Anyway, remember that there's always next year!! Good luck!!
