First day that I Can not Hunt
No one around with a tag that can hunt, or they are all turkey hunted out . This is the first day since April 25th that I have not been able to get out. No Clients , No friends and I had a smoke on the deck and heard a Gobble, I'm going nuts , I'm tiered and wore out but Just can not get the system to slow down in one day. I was up and out of bed at first light and have pased the floor all morning.
I'll Update you on yesterdays hunt :
It was a good morning , but bad luck seemed to run from the day before.
Got setup on 3 gobbling birds after flydown and worked the birds in. At 30 yards one Tom walked out very quiet to have a look at the hen, well needless to say, as all the Yelp Tracks of others in the mud from the passed , these birds have been worked and well.
The Gobbler is standing at 30 yards and my Gun man tried to make a move of about 2 feet to get on the bird and Putt-Putt and Gone before he could get a shot.
We worked the area and found another gobbler Gobbling to the crows, so we moved in and setup. I called very light and short and he replied about 60 yards away, gave it a second and purred and yelped again light, Noughting, we sat silent looking across in front for the bird moveing in. A crow Caws and the bird gobbles again at 40 yards just over a crest. We sat silent and watched and then from the corner of my eye there out walks a Gobbler in the open at 30 yards and the gun man pointing in the wrong direction again. This time He had a 3 foot+ move to make, as we waited the standing gobbler , I hear the bird Putt , I whispered Move slow on him , he's going , The gun man moved on him and as the gobbler turn , He shot and The gobbler jumped in the air and back down , stands for a second and starts to walk away. I said shoot again! and the gun man just looked at the gobbler walk off. I asked him why he didn't shoot again and he said he thought he hit it. I replied to him that when a Gobbler is hit , they fall down not walk off. Well I stabed away at him on the way back to the truck , that he would find his load a little lighter if he just got a single shot instead of a Pump Gun, Why carry a pump if you don't use it O - and lets go call in some more that we can make them smarter for the tresspassers .
Over all we had a good morning out, and Things happen, so if you miss , don't think your the only one ,, because more miss then is heard about...BT
