Conditioning a slate call
How often should you need to condition a slate call? Mine seems to need it very often or it stops working. Just hitting it and the striker with a few strokes of a scotch brite gets it going again, but its only good for 30 minutes to an hour tops, and I don't call too heavily.

RE: Conditioning a slate call
How often do you condition the striker? I had to condition my call like that as well until I started sanding the striker tip as well. The tip of the striker will appear kind of shiny, this will indicate that it needs to be roughed up too. Hope this helps.

RE: Conditioning a slate call
I second the striker needing a good cleaning too. I conditioned a slate call and it didn't seem right. When I looked at the tip of my striker it looked dirty and after sanding it a little it worked 10x better.

RE: Conditioning a slate call
Another vote for conditioning the striker. I guess it will depend on the material of the call however, as far as how long you can go before roughing. If I rough mine up before I go out in the morning they will usually last all day, but that partly because I use a few of them. Just using one I might have to do it one other time or so.
