3rd Day of Turkey Hunting My First Season Ever:
(MAY 9, 2004)

I went out to hunt a field today and there was a hen i didn't notice. When I was only about 5 ft away she got up and bolted for the edge to the woods. (Putin' which was the first time I have heard this in person I might add) Now I learned my lesson on not walking straight through the field, but im curious as to what your opinion of what she was doing. Probably saw me and crouched hoping I would just pass?

I'd say she was probably hiding. I've kicked bird up just a few feet from me too. It scares the crap out of you when they get up flying.

yes...i went turkey hunting last week and i just stepped into the woods not expecting to see a thing and 5 steps later a hen flew up less that 10ft from me....nearly scared me to death:)
