A Turkey Hunter Is Born! Video Clip
Well, after about 2 years of begging, I finally got my buddy to go turkey hunting with me. It was great. We saw deer (he learned the beauty of spring whitetails), called in a tom to about 60 yards where he hung up & put on a show (he learned humility & frustration), then we called in a jake with a couple of hens (he learned what an 835 will do to a bird at 15 steps & just how good wild turkey tastes). I hope yall don't mind me getting excited & showing this jake getting bagged. We have definately added to the brethren now!

Trailblazer,
I do agree the second bird had an unussual reaction to the shot, but I know for a fact it wasn't hurt. 1st of all, the shooter was about 3 feet to my left which would make for a sharp left-to-right tragectory. The second bird was left & behind the jake from my point of view already, so this would've put him seemingly out of harms way. 2ndly, as I stated in my first post, the jake was less than 15 steps. The pattern wouldn't have been much bigger than a cantelope at that range. 3rdly, as my buddy went out to get his jake, I watched that bird run for about 20 yards & then proceed to fly a quarter mile or so across the pasture (with the third bird that was there). |
