Idaho Success! At 730am
First Morning success, Thanks to Shed33 knowing where they were.
spurs are 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 beard is 9.5. His beard is pretty beat up, but mine would be too if I lived in the country where he did. There were 2 other gobblers with him and 2 hens. I shot him just as a wind storm was moving in. What made the hunt though was taking that bird with a new friend. Shed33 was nervous because I had gotten aweful quiet and wasn't saying anything, he thought that I wasn't having a good time. I finally after quite a few minutes was able to tell him that I was just speechless with everything that I had seen. I was in awl with my surroundings. What beautiful country there is there. I saw my first Elk up close and personal in the wild (now I understand what you all talk about) I saw White tails, Mule deer, Elk, Turkeys, live and all of the following animal tracks: Moose, Bobcat, Coyote, Wolf, Cougar, Bear. I hope you all are having as GREAT a season as I am. Like I said in the TURKEY challenge, I hope you all have the oppurtunity of making a new friend and get to hunt with him or her, I know I have made some new friends for life on both of my hunts this year. |

But we did watch a real good looking clear cut that was full of elk white tails and mule deer all eating in harmony together, I had seen before where someone had said that they don't feed together, Well let me tell ya that clear cut was full of em all feeding together.

RE: Idaho Success!
Pat,
You're right 100%, I have got the opportunity to meet & hunt with a few members here. They have turned into great frendships. It's really nice that we can all come together with one thing in common the love of the animals we pursue & the outdoors. Then to find out we have a lot more in common is a bonus. Out of all the friendships that we've all made here it wouldn't of been possible without this site! Congrats on your great bird & all that you got to see & experience for the first time...........kinds impressive as the size of those critters up close huh? ;) |
RE: Idaho Success!
Bldhound, You are correct. Like I said when we decided to hold the Challenge again that I would hope that people would have fun with it and maybe just maybe make one of those new friendships. With out those new friendships I wouldn't have had the oppurtunity to take either of the birds that I have gotten this year so far.
And yes those animals animals up close and personal are HUGE:D and when a cow Elk barks at ya from 40 yards it's pretty awesome, although she's telling everything else there is a human here:D Huntnma, I'm not a master i'm just a fake hen with a shotgun:D:D |
RE: Idaho Success!
Hey pat, it seemed like yesterday i was just talking to shed on line, and he was telling me about your guy's plan on going after those birds. Nice bird, i only have easterns here in ohio, but i would love to take a bird with that turkey fan, if u guys have any more room, let me know i would be more than happy to go hunting with some professional hunters like yourselves. NICE BIRD!!!(DRUELING,LOL)

RE: Idaho Success!
Turkey Fan, Well bud I am actually back in Pennsylvania now, and as you we only have Easterns here too. It was an awesome fan on that bird I couldn't have asked for a nicer one. He's already at the taxidermist, gotta wait 15 months to see him again though, Tax is really backed up because of the quality work that he does. Not sure if Shed has any room but it never hurts to ask. Good luck this year.

RE: Idaho Success!
Pat, I am glad you had a great Idaho experience. :D Kowing Shed33 personally (my cousin), I am sure he did everything he could to make the trip as enjoyable for you as possible. Great Bird!
Since you have an Idaho hunting liscense now, are you going to come back this year for some fall hunting? Maybe get a change to hunt one of them elk you seen. With your success and success of others Shed has "guided" he may be backed up with a waiting list like your taxidermist. ;) |
RE: Idaho Success!
Trout I am seriously considering, I just need to find out if I can get time off when Shed told me I need to be there. I would love to have a Bull bugle at me and blow the hat right off my head:D

RE: Idaho Success! At 730am
Well I was waiting for Shed33 to post his pic but here is another picture of his bird, This is probably one of the better pcitures. It shows what the hunt meant. This is actually his Bird I was just holding it so thathe could set up the timer on his camera.
