Opening day and tons of gobblers

My brother and I, and my Girlfriend all went out hunting the other day. We parked walked about 150 yards hooting and heard a lot of gobbles coming from various places. So we set up on a field next to the first group. There was obviously a flock, because when one would gobble we would hear several others follow. So many that there would be constant gobbles for 15-20 seconds.

Then finally when the sun came up, they flew down un front of us, and started fighting. I didn't count them all but was guessing around 30 turkeys with 12 jakes, 10 toms and the rest hens. They were constantly fighting, strutting, and gobbling. Finally they worked towards my lonely hen decoy. They were about 30 yards and I was waiting because the shot would've been clearer if they moved a little more to the left, but the spotted us. They were about to run so we pulled aim and quickly shot, and somehow the one I aimed at didn't fall, but my brothers tom dropped. So we got one, with a 10 1/2" beard.

I've never had so many longbeards at such close range. I had a blast, and it really wasn't that big of a deal to me that I missed. It was the first time for my girlfriend to ever along hunting, and it couldn't have went better.

Sounds like you had a great time!

Hmmm, a girl that hunts, I think you better hang on to her. ;)
