Scouting Turkeys

When is the best time of day to drive around your hunting area and see birds in the fields this time of year? I was bowhunting in early January and saw 5 longbeards so I decided to turkey hunt this year. I went out scouting in mid February to the same spot and saw no sign of the turkeys. I haven't had a shance to get back out since, but I'm worried they're not gonna be there come the second week of May whne I have tags. The area os 40 acres. Has a decent size stand of pines. A creek running through the middle or it. Three winter wheat fields and two large CRP fields. But the CRP fields are not part of the property I hunt on.

In the evening, this is the time to spend if your scouting from the road.

1/ you see the birds while feeding before roost.
2/ you have an idea of the area they are going to roost.
3/ you can keep track of travel areas that anyone flocks tends to visit.
4/ gives you an idea as to what the flock has in it for birds ,Hens vs Gobblers.
5/ If you plan on hunting the next morning , you have a good foot forward as to where to start, and already know as where the birds may travel.

:DYeser Turkeys usely are not far from were you see them feeding in the evening. Unless they get messed with. Then they be any were. But if you can find an old birds strutting zone. bingo What I usely do is crawl right in aabout 100 yds and listen for them to fly up. then the next morning slip in about 100 yds. Call softly at first then if an a hen cuts you off pour it on her try too make her mad. Abig part of the time the tom follows the hens
