Camo gun or not?
do u think it makes a difference if your gun is camo or black synthetic?

RE: Camo gun or not?
My Remington 870 has the black synthetic stock on it and in the 11 years I've hunted turkeys with it, I don't believe a single bird has ever noticed the color of my gun. Camo is purty, but movement is what catches an old gobbler's eye, not the finish on your gun!

RE: Camo gun or not?
I believe it makes little difference, as I've seen many people successfully hunt turkeys with wood or plastic stock blued shotguns. I'm using an old Wingmaster, but I put neoprene sleeves on it. The barrel is 27½" with the choked screwed in, and I want to be as inconspicuous as possible should I need to swing around to make a shot. I'm trying not to blow it on my first season!

RE: Camo gun or not?
Probably not. Fundamentals(no movement) are much more important than the latest and greatest camo pattern. The camo guns may make you look like the most intimidating figure in the woods, but it will be worthless w/o the ability to sit still.

RE: Camo gun or not?
I doubt that camo is a necessity, but I would concern myself about shine/reflection from the barrel. A turkey will spot that. You can get some camo tape and wrap the gun with it for a lot less than what you probably have to pay for a camo synthetic stock and barrel. A friend does that every year, and that takes the shine away.

It probably does'nt matter,BUT it sure looks nice:D

RE: Camo gun or not?
I've got a camo 835, but the purchase was just because I wanted one. I've taken 3 turkeys in 2 years hunting and neither of the guns I used was camo. One did have a camo sock on it though. I did find the camo argument useful in convincing my wife I needed one though.;)

RE: Camo gun or not?
..ive taken several birds, with a high gloss 870...but matte finish is better,i guess
sometimes that sun sure will glare things,a friend of mine has been busted while setup...from a glasses glare, but they were a must for the hunter...:eek::eek: |
RE: Camo gun or not?
I had a choice this year when I bought my 11-87 but decided to save the money and get the black. It may make a little difference in certain circumstances but I dont think it is all that important. If I feel the need some day I can tape it or use a camo gun sock.

RE: Camo gun or not?
I finally tired of putting camo tape on my gun every year--and REALLY dreaded the hassle of taking it off and dealing with the gummy adhesive. I finally gave up and spray painted the entire gun with black and gray primer paint. It gives it a nice "shadowy" appearance and kills the glare.
