Clash of Concious
Hey all
I am trying to decide whether to hunt with my bow or shotgun this year. I am pretty confident in my archery abilities but for some reason. I keep going back and forth. I have three weeks to decide. What do you all thinik? Help |
RE: Clash of Concious
I don't think I could ever successfully hunt a turkey with a bow, so if you want a greater challenge, bring your bow. From what I've seen of bowhunters on television, they have many extra challenges including being able to draw the bow back without getting busted by the bird, making a shot that doesn't wind up resulting in the bird running or flying off and shooting through hazards such as small trees which can deflect the arrow. I guess using a portable blind would help, but the shot has to be better than what you need with a shotgun. Good luck!!

I'm in the same predicament. It is hard to give up a whole season to bowhunt. If you decide to you should look at Aerodynamic Solutions web sight. They have a head called the Gobbler Guillotine. It does just what it says (lobs their heads off for quick clean kills). It is a fixed 4 blade head with a 4" cutting diameter. [:-] I've got some ordered from cabelas that should be here tomorrow. I'll let you know how they shoot.

Just split the season...half bow-half gun...there you go...

RE: Clash of Concious
I'm taking my first one with the smoke Pole to break the ice and relieve some of the tension, then I'm busting out the new Mathews Outback and start slingin some stick bullets at em.
I think I'm gonna take my bow to Texas with me also and try slingin some sticks at the Rios to:) TWO MO WEEKS[:-][:-][:-] |
RE: Clash of Concious
The new heads shoot pretty well. They are a little aggravating to assemble because you have to use doublestick tape and straws (included) on the blades to help with plaining. It doesn't shoot like a field point though. You need large helical feathers to stabilize it but then it shoots really good out to about 25 yards. Now I just need to try them on a bird.;)

Put one in the bag with the shotgun. Then the pressure is off, so you can go to the bow and have some fun. Just keep the frustration in perspective.

I'm hunting the first season with my gun and I'm about 50-50 on what I will hunt in my second season.

RE: Clash of Concious
Well SIR I guess it depends on what kind of turkeys you hunt and how many you have takin over the years. If you hunt unpressured gobblers and you kill one or two almost every spring then I would go with the bow(to kinda make it a little bit of a challenge). But on the other hand the gobblers your hunting are very pressured and your lucky if you kill one every couple years then I would stick with the gun:D Just my two cents
