RE: How long you been hunting turkeys::poll::
Honestly, I spent a lot more years thinkin about going turkey hunting than actually doing it. I gave it a try about 8 years back for one season in VA, and kinda got hooked. Out of 4 hunts that year, only one day did I have birds respond. Multiple gobblers, called 1 in that hung up just out of range. Then I changed jobs, got busy, moved to a different state... Spent some more years fishing and no hunting (nice to be back by salt water). Finally, picked it up again 2 seasons ago, and got my first bird. Now I'm hooked for life. Last year, didn't score, but chalk that up to inexperience. I had a shot that I passed on, which turned out to be my only shot of the season. Oh well. Guess thats kind of a long way of saying 3 years... Gonna start season 4 the end of April, and I can hardly wait.

My first turkey hunt was in Pa. in 1955. There was no spring season back then, fall only. Turkey populations were much smaller than they are today. Just seeing a turkey was a big deal. The only calls I saw were Lynch type boxes and scratch boxes.
I just realized, this will be my 50th year.

27 years starting with my first turkey at age 9 hunting with my dad. You can't beat sitting on a oak ridge in the springtime listening to the woods waking up. That first gobbler letting loose close by almost makes you jump. Good luck to all this spring.
