is scent an issue?

unlike the deer forum, i have noticed very little talk of scent in this one. i am a new turkey hunter and am wondering if scent is of any importance while turkey hunting?

thanks for any help

No turkeys cant smell at all. SOme people still wear scent suits to prevent spooking deer and elk that can smell.

the others are right.....and i cant agree with jalvja anymore.....if they could smell like a deer theyd be impossible to kill.....their eyesight is unbelieveable.....the important things is camo to not stand out and look like something unnatural and movement......if you have decint camo on and are still your fine...but say your belt buckle shines or your nose is showing through....you have a good chance of being busted...once you move you better be shooting or ready to watch it run or fly away....i had one that wouldnt come into gun range because of a gold trigger on my shotgun...he would come up the thick stuff and snoop around out of range and see that shining and he would take off running....he did it a few times.....i was still as could be and tried everything....but id always see him running away......good luck

The only way a turkey can smell anything is to taste it. So if you get winded by a gobbler you have bigger problems.

On a lighter side...what if you dressed up like a big turkey? I think I'll fill my tag before I try this one though.

Yeah turkeys can't smell you but you get one of them ol' long-necked does snorting at you while working a gobbler and you are in trouble.

If they could, the season would be open all year long.
