When I got my Freak from Primos they stressed using scotch-brite..unless you know what your doing sandpaper wil really wear your surface. He did say that it's super important to keep it rough though!

The best thing to use is a rough machinist stone ( like a whet rock). Over time sandpaper will wear waves in the surface but a stone will keep it flat.
