I posted this under Grand Slam rules, but I wanted to make sure everyone saw it.

*Let's not worry about proofing any kills or anything. Just keep it fun, honor code and all! The only thing I ask is that everyone e-mail me the birds they kill with the NWTF score already computed. That way I can go into where I have the teams saved and enter your bird and score. When all of the seasons get going good it is easy to let a score slide past me on the message board. You can e-mail me at [email protected], and if you don't know how to tabulate the NWTF score you can go to www.vaturkey.com and they have a place to enter your scores.*

Also, how about some suggestions for things we should compete to achieve. Obviously, each team will be trying to get a team grand slame, and then we will add each highest sub-species score to obtain a total team score. I also thought we could see which team kills the most birds. There can also be individual honors, like biggest bird of each sub-species, etc... Give some suggestions!

I wouldn't worry about posting a picture. Just get the measurements, including weight, and will do the honor system.

longest beard total for all species together per team.

How about this for something a little different? For any team that completes a Grand Slam, we can calculate the biggest, baddest combined Grand Slam Gobbler by taking the best weight, beard length, and spur lengths from four different birds, one of each subspecies.

For example, a 27# Eastern, a 12" Osceola beard, a 1-1/4" Merriam's spur and a 1-1/2" Rio spur for a 78.5 point Grand Slam Gobbler.

This would take some thought, considering your heaviest bird and longest beard or spurs may all be from the same subspecies, but you could only use one of those measurements to complete your score.

What do you think?

Ryan has already done enough for this little beauty, so I was thinking each team should elect (or volunteer) a captain. The captain would then be responsible for collecting scores from his team members. That way each team member could email his bird's stats to his captain (with or without NWTF score) and each team would be able to keep their own scores---that way Ryan wouldn't have to worry or doublecheck about placing a score under the wrong team.

Then at the end of the season the captains could email Ryan and he could check the numbers (for typos, etc.) and post when the seasons are over.

During the season, I would like to just see pictures & stories posted with NO stats---kinda' keep everybody wondering until the season is completely over---this sounds like more fun than the contest that was held last year that had prizes!!

We also should think about having a deduction system for the most saplings hit and most birds missed (sorry to tell ya' guys, but I got 2 saplings on the first day last year ) by a team.

Oh and Ryan, I "volunteer" you as Captain for our team, being that you're hunting & killing so many birds you won't have to send that many emails to someone else

It doesn't matter to me. If other guys want to volunteer to keep stats that is fine. I don't mind doing it though. I think that is a good idea about keeping everything off the board until the season is over. What do ya'll think? I mean post turkeys and cheer for your team, but wait and put the team results out when it is all done.
