I killed a really nice gobbler a few years back that had a 10 & 1/2 beard and no spurs. All he had was a small scale like where his spurs should have been. I thought it was kinda strange myself.

Maybe the white blotches indicate a mixed parentage of wild & domestic turkeys.

Last year, my cousin killed a tom with a full fan, 1" spurs, 19 # and only had a 3" very full beard. My uncle said he killed one once that had over 1" spurs and only had a nub for a beard. Uncle killed a few without spurs also. I also know a guy that killed a hen with a 8.5" "pencil" beard.

Over the years here we have taken a number of birds with no spurs or just one. One of the birds we took in Texas last year also only had one spur. About 3 or 4 years ago a friend took a bird that had one normal spur but the other leg had something(I hesitate to call it a spur) on it, right where the spur would normally be. This thing, was over two an a half inches long! It really didn't even look like a spur, kind of scally and rounded on the end. The other spur was normal and about three/quarters of an inch. I don't know if it had been injured at some time and this is what grew back or what, but man it sure looked wierd.
