That's right, only stupid people. ;) By the way, I've only heard turkey groups referred to as "flocks".

RE: Stupid question

Actually I always thought it was a flock but I heard on some show on the outdoor channel differently. It was a trivia question and they say it is called a rafter!!! I still say flock but I guess rafter is supposed to be the official name.

RE: Stupid question

Technically Jalvja you are correct,

We say

RE: Stupid question

Who called them a herd? I bet they don't do very much turkey hunting. Definately a flock. It's not a stupid question though. BB

Went out thar on the power lines yesserday and saw a Bigmessa turkeys.

RE: Stupid question

Ok , I'll throw you a curve ball here. A flock of turkeys are often found in the fall and winter as a family flock sticks togeather or sexes tend to group . In the spring as the birds break up and a Tom joins aflock of hens for breading the group of birds become a Harrem ;)...BT

jalvja 02-24-2004 06:44 AM

RE: Stupid question

RE: Stupid question

I always called a group of turkeys a drove...lots of other people use to also...not as common now days.

barefoot 02-24-2004 11:07 PM

RE: Stupid question

Ifly is right. The correct referrence to a group of turkeys is a "drove".

Fullback24 02-25-2004 06:59 AM

RE: Stupid question

I guess the correct word is flock...around here in Va, most everyone says "gang"...if you were from Austrailia, you would use the word "mob"

barefoot 02-25-2004 08:09 AM

RE: Stupid question

Well, Slap my Mama and call me stupid!

All the oldtimers around here call a group of turkeys a "drove". But when I did a search:

http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomfr...ollectives.htm

http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomfr...ls%2Fnames.htm

http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomfr...mal-groups.htm

http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomfr...s%2Fgroups.htm

http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomfr...imalgroups.htm

The correct answer is apparently a RAFTER

Ifly 02-25-2004 05:30 PM

RE: Stupid question

How bout I just call you stupid.

barefoot 02-25-2004 05:35 PM

RE: Stupid question

Wouldn't be the first time.[&:]

jepcho 02-25-2004 07:18 PM

RE: Stupid question

Like I said before...I always have and always will call them a flock but I heard on TV it is technically called a RAFTER. Thanks for helping me out barefoot.
